Turkmenistan is a country located in central Asia. Just as Uzbekistan gained its independence in 1991 so did Turkmenistan. This country was also a former republic of the Soviet Union for close to 70 years.

Ashgabad is the capital city. Turkmenistan is also known as the Turkmen Soviet Socialist the Caspian Sea is the closet coastline to the country. Iran and Afghanistan are two of its bordering countries.

Alexander the Great conquered this country in the 4th century B.C.
