Laos is located in southeastern Asia. In 1949, it became independent. The independence was gained from France.

Laos is a communist state. This republic is landlocked. The terrain is mountainous. This republic is bordered by Myanmar. The People’s Republic of China borders to the northwest and Thailand is to the West.

Lao refers to the people of the country and the official language spoken there. The French spelled it with an “s” and to this day, that is how the English name is spelled and pronounced.
