Latin America is a region in the western hemisphere where many cultures mesh. It includes countries from North America, South America, including Mexico, and some of the Caribbean Islands.

The countries in Latin America include 18 countries in which Spanish is one of the popular languages spoken. The Romance languages, those derived from Latin, are also spoken in Latin America. Brazil and Haiti are countries that are a part of this region.

Latin America can also be referred to as the area that Portugal and Spain colonized.
