Virginia became a state June 25, 1788. It was the 10th state admitted to the U.S. Constitution. Richmond is the state capital.

Ella Fitzgerald, Thomas Jefferson, and George Washington all are Virginians. Kentucky, Maryland, North Carolina, Tennessee, and West Virginia border Virginia. Dogwood is the state flower.

The state motto is, ?Sic Semper Tyrannis? which means Thus Always to Tyrants. Virginia was named for Queen Elizabeth I of England. 8 U.S. presidents were born in the state of Virginia. Included are Washington, Jefferson, Madison, Taylor and four more.
