Aztec refers to an ancient civilization in Mexico. It was the civilization that ruled from 1000AD to around 1500AD.

Their capital city was Tenochtitlan. This is now where modern day Mexico City is located. The Aztecs were the most civilized and powerful civilizations. They lived in the valley of Mexico until they were conquered by the Spanish.

They had a rich cultural that included religious practices with human sacrifice and burial masks for their kings as they entered the after life.
