A column is an article that is written for a publication, such as a newspaper or magazine. It usually deals with advice, opinions, or perspectives on everyday life.

It could be written as a weekly column, as in the Sunday paper, or once a month through a highly publicized magazine. A columnist is one who writes the column with experience gained through their school teachings or those from personal life.

Examples of columns and columnists would be Dear Abby or Ann Landers.
